CASE STUDY 4

Company: Mycroft Computing

Website: www.blucollsoft.com

Scenario: Blucollsoft.com was an old, neglected website that had not received much attention in the past few years. It was not the company's main website, but had been acquired as part of a package and then more or less overlooked. The site received very little traffic from the search engines, and those who did find their way to Blucollsoft were met by a somewhat tired-looking site.

 

The team at Mycroft Computing wanted more from the site, but had neither the time nor the inclination to change it. Like many other developers, they wanted to spend their time working on their software!

 

In May 2003, SharewarePromotions took on the job of revamping the website and optimising it for the search engines. Mycroft Computing wanted a brand new site with a look that was similar to their main site, but that would focus on only two of their products. The site needed a fresh set of keywords, optimised META tags, and new text content that would appeal both to potential customers and search engine spiders alike. The ultimate goal was that Blucollsoft.com would attract a significant number of targeted visitors from the search engines, then send them to the main Mycroft website, where they would find out more about the entire product range.

Solution:

  • Creating a new site structure with completely new pages. This included some basic graphic work, and a new navigation bar was also set up.
  • In-depth keyword research. Finding the ideal keywords for the two products concerned was critical, as the main reason for the new site's existence was to be prominent on the search engines.
  • Writing new titles, description tags and content for the pages. This was carried-out in cooperation with the people at Mycroft, in order to ensure that the products were accurately described.
  • Submitting the finished site to the search engines.

Results: Even a short time after the work was complete, the results achieved were visible, and it is safe to say that the people at Mycroft Computing were pleased! By the end of July, Blucollsoft.com had achieved top positions on Google for several of their chosen keywords, and a steady influx of "new" traffic began to come in from the search engines. The main Mycroft website was now receiving a regular flow of visitors from the newly optimised Blucollsoft website.
